Most people apply for citizenship by conferral. In general, you'll need to meet the following before you apply. We'll confirm your exact position during a consultation.
- Be a permanent resident at the time of application
- Meet the residence requirement (generally 4 years lawfully in Australia)
- Have been a PR for at least the past 12 months
- No more than 12 months absence in the last 4 years (max 90 days in the final year)
- Be of good character
- Intend to live in, or maintain a close link with, Australia
